Thank you for giving us the grant to buy wobble chairs and fidgets.
Autism spectrum disorders affect the way the brain processes incoming and outgoing information. One area that is often overlooked for students with autism is the area of sensory processing. Sensory processing is the ability of the brain to properly integrate and adapt to the onslaught of information coming in through the senses.
Room 113B had requested three Wobble Stools and a set of fidgets to help accommodate the sensory needs of the students in room 113B and those to come.
The Wooble Stools provide the sensory input to help increase the time the students can stay seated, focused and on task. The fidgets are used during transition time to provide a sensory outlet for them. We have also used them during work time to decrease self-stimming behavior. Richard particularly loves the “DNA Ball”. Izaiah likes to use the wooble chair when he does his reading. These resources have been particularly helpful as they are helping the students increase their ability to stay focused and thereby helping them academically and meeting their sensory needs.
