Why is this tower called “Big Ben”?

Big Ben is the nickname for the big bell tower in London. Some believe that Big Ben is named after a boxer named Benjamin Caunt. Others believe it is named after Sir Benjamin Hall, he helped build the tower.

"I am wondering why we have 300 bones when we are born and 206 when we are adults?" - Karin Roppe

As you grow your body and bones grow with you. Some bones grow together, so we end up with 206 bones when we are adults.

What Did We Learn About The Human Body:

This is Akeem showing how our food goes down our esophagus and into our stomach. In the stomach the food turns into mush by strong juices.

Skeleton
When I was born I had 300 bones. When I finish growing I will have 206 bones. Our skeleton helps us stand and protects our organs. If we did not have bones we would be floppy like gelatin. Our skull protects our brain and our ribs protect our heart. Our humerus is in our arm, some people call it the funny bone. Our femur is our biggest bone in our body.

Bones
Our bones are super strong. The inside is made up of bone marrow. Bone marrow looks like the inside of whopper candy.

The Spine
Our spine is also very important. It helps us stand and move but it also connects to our brain. Our spine is like a highway, it allows our brain to send messages to our body and back to the brain.

Muscles
Our muscles cover our bones. The muscles pull on our bones to  help us move, lift, play sports and much more.

The Heart
Our heart is about he size of my fist.
It is also very import as it pumps blood around our body. It is part of the circulatory system. Our blood takes oxygen, nutrients, antibodies and much more around our body.  Our heart is like an engine in a car.

Respiratory and Circulatory System
Our respiratory system is what makes us breathe. We need oxygen to live and grow. My blood brings the nutrients, antibodies and oxygen around my body.
The heart pumps blood around the body.

Digestive system
We need food to fuel our body. Our body has to break down our food. This is called digestion. It starts in your mouth, when you chew and swallow your food. It goes to the stomach where a very strong juice makes our food into mush. The mush then goes into our small intestine. It takes out all the important things like nutrients and vitamins that my body needs. The mush is then taken to the large intestine, which gets rid of all the stuff we don’t need. That’s where #2 comes from.

Around The World

Today I walked in my class and what did I see,  I saw a map of the whole world. I was happy because the map is awesome. All of my friends saw the map too and they were surprised. My friends had a lot of ideas about the map. Some of the ideas were learning about the cities and the countries. Travis had an idea, his idea is to go on a trolley tour and see a lot of cities and countries. Kalel wants to learn about South Africa and Egypt. Everybody wants to go to Greece and new Zealand. We have to take a plane to fly there. It would take all day everyday. I think Jahlil wants to go to Japan and Brazil.
